The county has begun paving and safety improvements on Farragut Avenue and work is expected to continue through the summer and early fall. Curbs, ADA ramps and sumps will be done first. Contractor starts at the south end of Farragut Ave near The Fenway and will continue north to Broadway then back down the other side.

FARRAGUT 1

The image above shows an island opening near Farragut & The Fenway designed to handle movement at this intersection. It will allow left-handers to enter and exit The Fenway without side-turns and vehicles driving the wrong way on northbound Farragut in order to drive south on Farragut Parkway. This change, along with reducing the Farragut Drive at the Farragut Avenue approach from two lanes to one lane and realigning the local Farragut Avenue approach should increase overall safety at the intersection.

The stop sign on The Fenway will be moved up to improve visibility. Additional changes include: pavement markings, including STOP letters added to the Fenway stop bar; a short double yellow line on The Fenway; he added cat tracks (dotted lines) to direct left turns from The Fenway to Farragut Parkway; and the replacement of additional curbs in the immediate vicinity.

Work around trees on the islands is limited to replacing curbs. Tree protection will be installed around the remaining trees in the edge islands where the contractor will work.

The overall schedule is that by July 1, the contractor will complete the curb island work and begin installing the ADA ramps and replacing the sump castings between Ravensdale Rd and The Fenway. Work progressing beyond Ravensdale towards the middle school is expected to begin around July 5. The contractor tentatively plans to start milling and paving the road during the first week of August (weather permitting).
