To celebrate! West Hartford FUNd RUNS returns to live format, support neighbors in need – We-Ha

Registration is now open for the 2022 Celebrate! West Hartford FUNd RUNS with both a 5K and a Kids’ K.

Riders of all ages, speeds and abilities will take to the streets of West Hartford in June, joining the community for the annual celebration! West Hartford FUNd RUNS Kids’ K 5k run or walk and non-competitive run.

The FUNd RUNS, which will be held on Sunday morning June 12, 2022, are part of the signature Celebrate! West Hartford’s two-day outdoor festival taking place June 11-12 this year.

The races, which have in the past drawn large crowds and are one of the most anticipated parts of the weekend, return to the full in-person format this year for the first time since 2019, after being changed over the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Party! The West Hartford FUNd RUNS offer entire families the opportunity to get out and exercise together while supporting our neighbors in need,” said Peter Travers, FUNd RUNS Committee Chair.

The races are not only “fun” for people of all ages, they also “fund” activities for local residents. “You’re sure to see familiar faces at all skill levels, which is the beauty of this local event. A portion of the proceeds from entry are donated to The Town That Cares and the Leisure Services Scholarship Fund,” said added Travers.

The Kids ‘K, which starts at 8 am, is 1.75 loops around Blue Back Square. Medals are awarded to all graduates.

The USATF-certified 5k race kicks off at 9 a.m. and begins with a fast downhill run down Raymond Road, winds its way through the Webster Hill neighborhood and finishes downhill on Burr Street. The 5K

To celebrate! West Hartford event director Linda Geisler said the 5K attracts many of the region’s elite runners vying for a course record as well as others running to break their own person records, children who have participated in spring training programs in West Hartford or nearby towns, people running to support the city’s camp scholarship funds, and others simply running or walking for the fun, to be part of the party! live.

Prizes worth $30, $25 and $20 are awarded for first to third place respectively in all 5K divisions. The age categories are: 10 and under, 11-14, 15-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80+. A prize draw for all other 5K participants also takes place after the race.

Online pre-registration for all races is now open at www.CelebrateWestHartford.com. and registrants can easily register more than one participant at a time. Runners who register before May 31 are guaranteed a race jersey.

Pre-race registration and package pickup will be at Fleet Feet Sports, 1003 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford Center on Friday, June 10 from 3-6 p.m. and Saturday, June 11 from 9 a.m.-noon. Runners can also register at this time and collect their race jersey, race number and bib tag.

Race day registration and package pickup will also be available beginning at 7 a.m. at the festival catering tent which will be located in the City Hall parking lot at 50 Main Street South. Runners are encouraged to arrive with plenty of time, and free race day parking is available at Isham Garage, 17 Isham Rd. A post-race reception and awards ceremony will also be held in the festival tent .

More information on Celebrate! West Hartford, as well as online race registration, is available at www.CelebrateWestHartford.com. Registration for the 5K is $27 through May 31. The fee increases to $32 on June 1. The Kids’K is $5.

In addition to FUN RUNS, Celebrate! West Hartford features an award-winning arts and crafts show, carnival rides and games, an international food court, live music, and exhibit booths from local nonprofits and businesses . Over the past few years, the event has attracted 40,000 visitors over the weekend.

“After being closed due to COVID-19 for the past two years, we are thrilled to be back as a live, in-person event,” Geisler said. It will be a very special celebration of all things West Hartford this year. »
