Principal kisses pig after students hit $35,000 goal – Orange County Register

McAuliffe Middle School principal Dr. Ryan Weiss-Wright hasn’t had a good few weeks.

He was punched in the face with a pie, made to wear a dough boy costume for a day at school, and had to kiss a pig on the snout.

But all the excitement was ultimately for his students.

Weiss-Wright accepted incentives if students reached certain milestones as part of the school’s annual fundraiser.

The school’s goal is to raise $75,000 to support campus activities such as clubs, dances, and intramural sports.

On Wednesday, Weiss-Wright was on her knees and preparing to kiss “Piglet” as a reward for students reaching their $35,000 goal.

“Not really excited at all,” he said in anticipation.

A quick kiss and a grimace later, the students cheered with their sights on the $50,000 milestone.

At this goal, the entire admin team will receive buckets of ice water, i.e. the ice bucket challenge.

If students reach their $75,000 goal, they get a carnival with inflatables, games, and a DJ, plus funding for activities for the rest of the year.

How does it feel to kiss a pig?

“It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be,” Weiss-Wright said. “A little hair in some places.”

McAuliffe Middle School serves more than 1,000 students in grades 6 through 8 in the Los Alamitos Unified School District.
