Cameroon vs Egypt live score updates: AFCON latest as Salah’s Egypt triumph over host Cameroon on penalties

Egypt booked their place in this year’s Africa Cup of Nations final after beating Cameroon 3-1 on penalties.

Cameroon dominated the first half and came close to taking the lead several times. Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui went the highest from a corner and hit the top of the post in the 18th minute. Vincent Aboubakar was on the straight for the rebound, but his effort went wide of the post.

Egypt started the second half well but struggled to create clean chances. The two teams continued to cancel each other out and it became a suspicious affair as the match progressed.

Pharaohs manager Carlos Queiroz was sent off in the final moments of the 90 minutes after protesting to the referee for what he believed was a punch on Ramadan Sobhi from a Cameroonian player.

Extra time started similarly, with both groups of players looking leggy. Egypt had a golden chance in the last moment of the match when Sobhi beat his man from the right side. With a number of his teammates in the box, he overshot his cross and it overtook everyone.

Egyptian keeper Gabaski was the hero, saving two penalties before Clinton N’Jie sent the crucial spot kick onto the athletics track at Olembe Stadium.

Sunday’s final will see Liverpool pair Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane face off.
