A green and white wedding in October in Virginia

Jennifer and Jake met in freshmen at American University, and seven years later tied the knot at Manor at Airmont in a classic green and white wedding. See details of their big day below.

The couple

Jen, a consultant from New Jersey, and Jake, an officer in the Pennsylvania Army, met as freshmen at American University in 2013. In October, he asked her to date her at her first date, but they didn’t officially start dating until February. of the following year. Since then, they have spent most of their time remotely, studying abroad, pursuing master’s studies, training and deployments. As newlyweds, they are back in the town where it all began, with a puppy named Ivy.

Proposal

Five years after starting dating, Jake visited Jen in Edinburgh, where she was finishing her masters degree. He had just completed a deployment to Iraq and, they say, they were excited to spend time together and explore Scotland. One evening they are planning a trip to the Isle of Skye where they visited a distillery, then had dinner before heading back down to Loch Dunvegan. As their eyes adjusted, they say, they were able to see thousands of stars and Jen almost immediately spotted a shooting star. She made a wish, and moments later she says it came true when Jake proposed.

Wedding day

Instead of a wedding theme, the couple decided to showcase the venue’s scenery with lush foliage and flowers, and incorporate some Scottish touches throughout, including a fasting hands ceremony. They hired a graphic designer to create a personalized wedding logo decorated in shades of white, green and gray.

For the ceremony, they exchanged their traditional Christian vows, as well as their own vows. One of their top priorities for the day was food, which they said was “absolutely amazing”. Starters included tequila and lime shrimp, mini veggie tacos, and bao rolls. For dinner, an order of snafu meant guests enjoyed both Asian-spiced salmon and maple-Dijon glazed chicken (instead of having to choose), with mashed potatoes. and roasted vegetables. Towards the end of the evening, they served personal pizzas at the end of the evening.

After the wedding day, the newlyweds had a mini moon in Irvington, Va., And plan to visit St. Lucia in April 2022.
